CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE IN ADULTS
POPELOVA Jana, OECHSLIN Erwin
Hardback approx.
2006 not yet published
approx.price..EUROS 160,05 ( FF 1049,86 )

 Summary / Résumé

The adult population with congenital heart disease is increasing rapidly.
More than 80% of children with congenital heart disease now reach adulthood, with some congenital heart diseases diagnosed for the first time in adults.
The operations performed during childhood may have severe residual findings, which need to be repaired.
Cardiologists of all subspecialities will meet these patients and should be familiar with the most common problems and the basic principles of care for adults with congenital heart disease.
This highly illustrated and well-written text is aimed at cardiologists and internal medical doctors, whether qualified or in-training, who are not specialized in the field of congenital heart disease, and will, nevertheless, meet these patients more and more often in their daily practice.
The complicated subject of congenital heart disease is written in a very simple, easy and comprehensive way.
The purpose is to give a brief overview of the morphology, physiology, diagnostic methods, therapy and prognosis of the most common congenital heart disease in adulthood.
Echocardiography is a superior method for diagnosing congenital heart disease in adulthood.
However, the echocardiographer has to know what to look for, to recognize basic disease patterns, otherwise he will miss the diagnosis.
Adult Congenital Heart Disease contains many excellent drawings and echocardiographic documentation with practical suggestions.
All the echocardiograms come from routine examination and only from adults, whose examination is often much more difficult than that of the children.

 Summary / Résumé

Heart failure is a devastating disease of epidemic proportions.
Physicians are faced with an increasingly large choice of treatment options and questions including: how different genetic, racial and gender backgrounds can influence a patient's response; how to monitor treatment once it has begun; and what side-effects can be expected from these agents. This book is the essential guide for physicians working with these issues to optimise their use of pharmacologic therapy for patients with heart failure.
This extensively referenced text provides both the biologic and pathologic underpinning for the use of each pharmacologic agent currently recommended, including the clinical investigations that have led to our understanding of the risks and benefits associated with the use of these drugs.
In addition, this book reviews several areas, including vasopressin antagonists, that are under active investigation, but which are expected to prove fruitful in the therapy of patients with heart failure.
Heart Failure: Pharmacologic Management is written by individuals with extensive expertise within the field and is the only text to focus on pharmacologic therapy.
It will assist the practitioner in easily making sense of the extensive number of treatment agents available and should be considered a vital contribution to your bookshelf.
